HUNTED: { Wedding Flowers – Scottish Thistle }
When you think wedding flowers, the first thing that comes to mind may not be painful spiky foliage. Well, think again wedding huntees.
Thistles, the national emblem of the Scots, make an attractive addition to wedding bouquets with their soft purple / blue hue and distinctive shaping.
Timing-wise, thistles are in season late Summer through to Winter.
If you need some inspiration, images of the noble Scottish thistle are hunted below.
The Scottish Thistle : Bridal Bouquets

For the bridal bouquet, unless you’re aiming for a hand-full of thorns, I’d recommend a mixture of thistles and alternative blooms. This example [ via Google Images ] includes white roses and purple veronicas which accentuate the thistles. There’s a lovely touch of plaid in there too.
Thistles also work as part of a bridal bouquet at a rustic country wedding. This mixture including thistles; soft white roses and gentle hanging fronds makes it perfect for that low-key vibe. The bouquet also goes beautifully with the muted dusky blue of the bridesmaid dress.
The Scottish Thistle : Buttonholes
For your buttonholes / boutonnieres, your life is easy. A thistle buttonhole with a plaid loop underneath is simple, stylish and in keeping with the theme.

The Scottish Thistle : Table Centrepieces

At weddings, table centrepieces are often created from a mix of flowers similar to the bridal bouquet. This vase from Form and Flora shows you how the combination of the thistle in with blues, whites and even oranges works. They’ve also included roses and peonies, two classic wedding flowers.

The Scottish Thistle : Groomswear
Finally, if you are having the Scottish thistle as part of your wedding flowers, the chances are there’s some Scottish heritage in one of your families.
Which means there’s a chance the groom is considering wearing a kilt.
Did I hear you say you’d like a gratuitous picture of a gent in a kilt? … oh go on then.

Thank you We Heart It for providing that lovely image.
