HUNTED : { Wedding Inspiration – Purple Wedding Palette }
…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….
The good people at Pantone have announced that the colour of the year 2012 is Tangerine Tango. What mindless colour prejudice. In protest, I’m turning straight to the opposite site of the colour wheel and giving you a hunt for a purple wedding palette.
Purple has always held the odd juxtaposition of being loved by hippies and royalty, signalling both wealth and spirituality.
Whilst Pantone are galloping off on their quest for orange, purple’s bound to get forgotten – unless someone tries to revive that micro-trend for “POrange” initiated by Cheryl Cole in 2011. And let’s hope they don’t.

There’s not just one purple, of course. The shade ranges from dark bluey violets to rich red maroons to vibrant magentas to delicate lilacs. The full purple spectrum goes remarkably well together, however, as the varied stripes above demonstrate so it’s fine to mix a bit. Just beware of painting everything purple for fear of looking like you’ve pimped your wedding.

Bridalwear

Whilst a purple wedding dress is most likely not the look you’re going for (I repeatedly teased my fiance that my dress of choice was purple … he would have been horrified if it was true …) you could add a purple accent like this lovely sash via Etsy with deep purple flowers.

Brides who don’t mind a little drama in their make-up could consider a purple eye. Ok so you might not want it quite as dramatic as here, but it’s a gorgeous colour and really accentuates the colour of the pupil (via Makeup Access)

Bridesmaids & Flowergirls
…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….

I once heard a girl complain bitterly about being forced to wear purple as a bridesmaid. I absolutely couldn’t understand – I think it’s a beautiful shade that suits a wide variety of colourings of girl well. If you find a dress as beautiful as this purple Grecian maxi via Brown‘s there should be no complaints at all. Not that they’d dare to your face.

Clearly the good folks at J Crew also understand the beauty of a purple bridesmaid dress. If you’re considering the mismatched dresses route then you could let your girls have their pick of either design.

If you’re wondering what a line-up of purple girls would look like, wonder no more. The great thing about this colour is how well it lights up in photos. For me, I’d have picked an alternate to black on the shoes. But that’s just me (via Tumblr).

When you’re thinking of flowergirls, please, for me, put them in a purple tutu like this one via Tutu & Twirl.

Wedding Flowers
…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….

Entering flower territory and purple lends itself to all sorts of absolutely stunning blooms. Shades of purple from a dark violet through lilac and into pink territory mix very effectively together as per above. You may want to reconsider a strong purple bridesmaid dress colour in this case – the subtle pastel seen here complements the flowers rather than entering battle with them (via Tumblr).

Wedding Decor

For a simple decor idea take inspiration from these pansies in purple glass (via My Sweet Savannah).

Wedding Cake
…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….
Your wedding cake can be a purple triumph. That doesn’t necessarily mean just putting purple ribbon and flowers on it … this kooky M&M creations shows the victory of imagination over tradition (via Tumblr).

Wedding Favours
…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….

Whatever the favour, pop it in a purple pail to keep the colour scheme going (via Paper Themes).

Purple Wedding Inspiration : you have been hunted.
Have you seen any inspiring ideas in the purple spectrum not featured here?
Or maybe you think orange and purple would be an excellent wedding colour combination?

[...] The classic food based wedding favour is sugared almonds. Personally I think they’re a bit of a snooze-fest of a favour but don’t let what I think put you off. And if you are going to have them, take the chance to put them in an attractive holder, like this pail via Paper Themes (which will work particularly well if your colour theme is purple). [...]
